The pattern
-
Step 1: Lower Basket Body and Toilet-Paper Opening

Work the standard 56-stitch basket in orange, exactly as for the Gnome. Finish with a slip-stitch top edge and do the roll fit check.
-
Step 2: Head, Muzzle, and Ears

Head (orange): Follow the 54-stitch sphere chart: increase by 6 each round to 54, work R11–R15 plain, then decrease (7 sc, dec) ×6, (6 sc, dec) ×6, (5 sc, dec) ×6, (4 sc, dec) ×6, (3 sc, dec) ×6, (2 sc, dec) ×6, (sc, dec) ×6, dec ×6. Lightly flatten the lower edge before closing. Embroider closed eyes or install safety eyes before stuffing.
Muzzle (cream): Ch 9. R1: sc 7, 3 sc in last ch, underside sc 6, inc in first = 18. R2: inc, sc 6, inc ×3, sc 6, inc ×2 = 24. R3: sc around (24). FO. Embroider the nose and mouth before sewing to the head.
Ears (make 2, orange): Ch 2; Row 1: 2 sc; Row 2: inc in each = 4; Row 3: sc 4; Row 4: inc, sc 2, inc = 6; Rows 5–8: sc 6. Make cream inner triangles one row smaller and sew them on. Fold the lower corners slightly when attaching.
-
Step 3: Scarf, Arms, Feet, and Tail

- Scarf (green): Ch 61; hdc across (60). Work 4 rows. Finished about 38 × 5 cm. Add a leaf or flower accent at one end.
- Arms ×2: Orange with brown ends, 12 sc circumference × 10 rounds.
- Feet ×2 (brown): 18 sts × 6 rounds.
- Tail: Orange R1 6; R2 12; R3 18; R4–R12 18; R13 (sc, dec) ×6 = 12; R14–R18 12; switch to cream for the last 5 rounds and taper to 6. Stuff lightly.
-
Step 4: Final Assembly

Sew the head above the opening, the ears to the upper head, and the muzzle centered low. Tie or tack the scarf. Attach the arms and feet. Sew the tail to the lower side so it curves forward without blocking the roll opening. Final target size: 23 × 18 × 14 cm.
Finishing & quality check
Use this same finishing order for every design in the collection:
- Block and shape the empty basket, and verify the roll opening.
- Attach the major head/top section, centered over the opening.
- Pin paired parts first; compare them from the front and side before sewing.
- Sew accessories and decorative parts only after the structural seams are secure.
- Insert the roll, adjust the shaping, weave in all tails, and perform the final size check.
Final quality checklist — before you call it done:
- Roll slides in and out freely
- Holder stands without tipping
- Paired parts are symmetrical
- No stuffing is visible
- All yarn tails are buried
- Eyes and decorations are secure
- Finished dimensions are within about 1 cm of target
Care & placement
- Place finished holders on a dry shelf or floor position beside the toilet.
- Keep them away from direct moisture, shower spray, wet floors, and sink splashes.
- Leave the roll opening unobstructed.
- Spot clean only. Reshape while damp and air dry completely.
- Hide all yarn tails inside the work, and reinforce load-bearing attachment points.
- For child-accessible decor, embroider eyes instead of using removable small parts.
