Step 1: Lower Basket Body and Toilet-Paper Opening

Work the standard 56-stitch basket described above in the main basket color. Work in continuous rounds unless a row is stated.
- Foundation: Ch 19.
- R1: 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 16, 4 sc in last ch; rotate to underside, sc 16, 2 sc in first ch. (40)
- R2: Inc in next 2 sts, sc 16, inc in next 4 sts, sc 16, inc in next 2 sts. (48)
- R3: (Sc, inc) ×2, sc 16, (sc, inc) ×4, sc 16, (sc, inc) ×2. (56)
- R4: BLO sc around. (56)
- R5–R12: Sc around. (56 each)
- R13 (opening): Sc 17, ch 22, skip 22 sts, sc 17. (56 including chain)
- R14: Sc 17, sc 22 across the chain, sc 17. (56)
- R15–R19: Sc around. (56 each)
- Top edge: Sl st around once. FO, leaving a 25 cm tail.
Do the fit check with an empty roll before continuing.
-
Step 2: Hat, Nose, and Beard

Tall hat (green): R1 6 sc in MR; R2 12; R3 18; R4–R5 18; R6 (2 sc, inc) ×6 = 24; R7–R9 24; R10 (3 sc, inc) ×6 = 30; R11–R14 30; R15 (4 sc, inc) ×6 = 36; R16–R19 36; R20 (5 sc, inc) ×6 = 42; R21–R24 42. Join cream and sc 42 for 2 rounds for the brim. FO. Bend the tip naturally rather than overstuffing.
Nose (peach/cream): R1 6 sc in MR; R2 inc ×6 = 12; R3 (sc, inc) ×6 = 18; R4–R5 18; R6 (sc, dec) ×6 = 12. Lightly stuff and FO with a sewing tail.
Beard: Cut 42 cream strands, each 18 cm. Fold each in half and latch to a 28 cm cream foundation cord. Trim the finished beard to about 8–9 cm deep, longer in the center.
-
Step 3: Arms, Mittens, and Feet

Make paired pieces one immediately after the other and compare them before stuffing.
- Arms ×2 (green): R1 6; R2 12; R3–R10 12.
- Mittens ×2 (red): R1 6; R2 12; R3–R5 12; R6 dec ×6 = 6. Lightly stuff. Add 1 cream cuff round of 12 sc and sew the mittens to the arms.
- Feet ×2 (brown/red): R1 6; R2 12; R3 (sc, inc) ×6 = 18; R4–R6 18; R7 (sc, dec) ×6 = 12. Stuff and flatten the back edge for sewing.
-
Step 4: Final Assembly

Center the beard above the opening. Sew the nose over the top of the beard. Attach the arms at the upper sides of the opening and the feet at the lower corners. Fit the hat over the upper basket/body and stitch the brim securely. Add the sprig and an optional bell only after all structural seams are complete.
Finishing & quality check
Use this same finishing order for every design in the collection:
- Block and shape the empty basket, and verify the roll opening.
- Attach the major head/top section, centered over the opening.
- Pin paired parts first; compare them from the front and side before sewing.
- Sew accessories and decorative parts only after the structural seams are secure.
- Insert the roll, adjust the shaping, weave in all tails, and perform the final size check.
Final quality checklist — before you call it done:
- Roll slides in and out freely
- Holder stands without tipping
- Paired parts are symmetrical
- No stuffing is visible
- All yarn tails are buried
- Eyes and decorations are secure
- Finished dimensions are within about 1 cm of target
Care & placement
- Place finished holders on a dry shelf or floor position beside the toilet.
- Keep them away from direct moisture, shower spray, wet floors, and sink splashes.
- Leave the roll opening unobstructed.
- Spot clean only. Reshape while damp and air dry completely.
- Hide all yarn tails inside the work, and reinforce load-bearing attachment points.
- For child-accessible decor, embroider eyes instead of using removable small parts.
