The pattern
-
Step 1: Lower Basket Body and Toilet-Paper Opening

Work the standard 56-stitch basket in brown, exactly as for the Gnome. Finish with a slip-stitch top edge and do the roll fit check.
-
Step 2: Head, Eye Rings, and Beak

Head (brown): Use the 54-stitch sphere chart, but leave the final 36-stitch opening unclosed. Flatten it and sew it directly to the basket top. Pinch the two upper corners while sewing to suggest ear tufts.
Eye rings (cream, make 2): Ch 16 and join into a ring carefully; R1 sc 16; R2 (sc, inc) ×8 = 24; R3 sc 24. FO. Place a safety eye through the center, or embroider the eye. Sew the rings symmetrically.
Beak (mustard): R1 4 sc in MR; R2 6; R3 8; R4 10; R5 10. Flatten into a teardrop and sew between the eye rings.
-
Step 3: Feather Texture, Wings, Feet, and Leaves

- Feather texture: For each chest feather: ch 4, sl st in 2nd ch, sc in next, hdc in next. Make 18–24 motifs and sew them in overlapping rows on the chest, working from the bottom upward (or work them directly onto the surface).
- Wings ×2 (green/brown): Ch 12; work a leaf oval around the chain for 3 rounds, increasing at the ends.
- Feet ×2 (mustard): R1 6, R2 12, R3 18, R4–R5 18. Flatten.
- Leaves ×4: Ch 8 leaf method. Plus one 5-petal flower (MR, [ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, sl st] ×5).
-
Step 4: Final Assembly

Sew the head, then the eye rings and beak. Add the feather motifs to the chest. Attach the wing panels at the sides and the feet at the lower front. Finish with leaves and a flower on one shoulder. Check that both eye rings sit at the same height.
Finishing & quality check
Use this same finishing order for every design in the collection:
- Block and shape the empty basket, and verify the roll opening.
- Attach the major head/top section, centered over the opening.
- Pin paired parts first; compare them from the front and side before sewing.
- Sew accessories and decorative parts only after the structural seams are secure.
- Insert the roll, adjust the shaping, weave in all tails, and perform the final size check.
Final quality checklist — before you call it done:
- Roll slides in and out freely
- Holder stands without tipping
- Paired parts are symmetrical
- No stuffing is visible
- All yarn tails are buried
- Eyes and decorations are secure
- Finished dimensions are within about 1 cm of target
Care & placement
- Place finished holders on a dry shelf or floor position beside the toilet.
- Keep them away from direct moisture, shower spray, wet floors, and sink splashes.
- Leave the roll opening unobstructed.
- Spot clean only. Reshape while damp and air dry completely.
- Hide all yarn tails inside the work, and reinforce load-bearing attachment points.
- For child-accessible decor, embroider eyes instead of using removable small parts.
